Troubleshooting Your Pull Up...
Something people might not know about me is I am an Aviation Maintenance Engineer (Avionics) by trade. Yes I fixed helicopters for a living before opening a gym.
While this wasn’t the career I chose to stick with it did teach me some great lessons in fault finding and troubleshooting…
You see when troubleshooting complex systems (like automatic flight controls in helicopters) we used the half split rule. This rule essentially allowed us to split technical systems in half.
Quite simple when you think about it but this allowed us to isolate issues to one side of a system and focus all of our energy there. The result was we could fix things faster.
This system has been especially useful for helping people in the gym environment too.
A great example of this used with movement is with a Pull up.
Split the movement in two. The top half and the bottom half… Which part are you weak at?
The top half or the bottom half?
If this question has you wondering check out the video shot by Kurt who has launched a new project called The Fitness Freak Show.
I recently shot this video with him in the hopes it would not only help people in diagnosing where their specific area of weakness was, but also a couple of ways to eliminate this weakness.
