What Does Being Fit Really Mean?
What does it mean to be fit to you?
For as long as I can remember fitness has been synonymous with a certain physique or appearance. You know what I’m talking about…
Being muscular, lean and toned is where most people's thoughts go when asked this question.
Now don’t get me wrong, those things are great but they aren’t the only thing or the whole picture when it comes to being fit in my opinion.
I hear it quite often when someone says something like “Wow, she is so fit” and while the probability is quite high if they have muscles and a low body fat percentage it isn’t always the best indicator of fitness.
I believe your fitness is a reflection of your capability as a human. How many things could you just do at a moments notice?
If your friends asked you to join their social Basketball team could you, or what if they invited you to a tough mudder or spartan race? Could you say yes to these things straight away and not have to train?
What if the task was instead moving house? Do you have the strength to lift awkward heavy things or would you need to say no?
So while muscles are cool they aren’t just there for show. So the next time you judge your fitness or that of others ask what those muscles can actually do because that’s what fitness is all about!
