Having Standards...

We talk a lot in the gym about meeting certain standards. In my opinion this has been one of the greatest things CrossFit has bestowed upon me and brought to light in the fitness space.

Firstly defining what fitness is so we have something to aim for and then setting certain standards around movements which can be replicated which gives us the ability to track performance over time.

If we have a standard we can either meet it or fall short. It’s through this process we learn if we are progressing or where we still have work to do…

Now I observe most people are really good at meeting these standards in the gym but what about your life outside. After all even if you trained every day this is only 1 hour of the day and there are still another 23 hours to hold yourself to some sort of standard. Be it around your nutrition, recovery or sleep…

I believe the quality of our lives, relationships and training is directly proportional to the standards or guideposts we use to filter our behaviours and actions. They can either be good or bad.

So if you’ve made it this far, how do your standards guide your behaviours? Do you even have them? If not consider setting some and stand for something and the beauty is what they are is totally up to you!
