4 Benefits Of Gymnastics Training...

Gymnastics is one of the 3 training methodologies we take inspiration from in creating our program. The others being weightlifting and metabolic conditioning.

You might be under the assumption that starting Gymnastics later in life is not a good idea… The thought of trying handstands, pull ups or even a simple push up might seem completely out of your wheelhouse.

This to me is ridiculous. It’s like saying because you never learnt to ride a bike as a kid now that you’re an adult you shouldn’t or can’t do it!

Just like anything else we learn in life gymnastics training is a skill which can be learned and improved upon over time. Sure any aspirations of competing at the olympics might never happen but you can still benefit from participating in the training.

So what are the benefits:

  1. Improved strength: Particularly in women. We find women more so than men will struggle with the upper body strength component of the training. Strength is improved because most of the training in gymnastics is resistance based. Using your body weight held in different positions which stresses the muscles requiring them to grow stronger to adapt to the stresses.

  2. Improved coordination: Due to the complex nature of some gymnastics movements multiple parts of the body need to be braced or moved at the same time. This leads to not only better coordination but better body awareness.

  3. Improved self esteem: Not only do you get stronger from this training you will also gain confidence and self esteem. By performing different skills and drills all of which progressively get harder you will become more capable physically which leads to a more confident you!

  4. Improved flexibility: Gymnasts are widely known as some of the most flexible athletes in the world. There is a reason for this… As well as building strength in certain positions flexibility is a high priority, the easier it is to reach a certain position the safer it is to get there. Forcing yourself into positions is what leads to injury so just as much time is spent on reaching the good position as building strength there…

If making improvements in these areas sounds appealing to you then 6pm on Tuesday nights and 530am on Thursday’s are where I will find you!
