What Tiger Wood's Father Can Teach Us About Motivation...

Some may love him and some may hate him. Whether you love him or hate him Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of the modern era.

He has had more success on a golf course than most kids these days can ever dream of second only to Jack Nicklaus on the all time lists of grand slams and PGA tour wins…

In 2008 just while his father was on his deathbed Tiger tried to win the Masters which was the last tournament his father would ever watch him play.

It turns out in his effort to win for his father that he played some really bad golf (he still finished  4th) and it goes without saying Tiger was extremely disappointed he didn’t win one last time for his father.

During one of the last visits with his father, Tiger apologised for not winning this tournament.

His father rather than accepting the apology and offering up a “Don’t worry son you tried your best" kind of talk, instead gave him a lecture on not doing anything for anybody else. That’s right he chewed Tiger out for going against the advice he taught him as a child…

You see his whole life Tigers father taught his son to only do things if he wanted to. To harness his intrinsic motivation as the driving force to get after the things which were truly important to him.

So what can you take away from Tigers fathers parting advice?

If you want something get after it!

Don’t let others tell you what you should be doing or the thought of what would impress them influence your decision making.

It has to come from within if you want to produce your best effort.
