Success Could Be Just Around The Corner

Recently I have been working towards my goal of a 30 second freestanding handstand.

To some it may not seem very hard and to others it might seem like an impossibility…

To me it felt like an impossibility for the first couple of months and some days still does!

Every attempt I made would end in me falling back to where I started or cartwheeling out wanting to kick the nearest object in frustration…

I set out to achieve the goal not really knowing how hard it would be.

I was a bit naive. On top of this I ran my mouth and made a bet with a friend. The first one to a 30 second hold gets lunch shouted by the other.

A couple of times per week I would practice and it felt like I was going nowhere but I couldn’t back down because the bet had been made so I have kept working at it!

Mid way through this bet I was introduced to a principle called the Hiding Hand and it describes exactly the process I am going through…

“Explanation below by Wikipedia”

The Hiding Hand principle is the idea that when a person decides to take on a project, the ignorance of future obstacles allows the person to rationally choose to undertake the project.

Once it is underway the person will creatively overcome the obstacles because it is too late to abandon the project. The term was coined by economist Albert O. Hirschman.

Too many people these days don’t give themselves the opportunity to have this happen. Because everything is a google search away we can always check, make an assumption and choose to get after it or not.

Next time you want to give something a try instead of researching the crap out of it just dive in and get so far into it that it is too late to turn back!

You never know you might just learn something about yourself…
