The Crossroads: Gains Or No Gains...

As a gym owner I have had hundreds of conversations with potential clients about their training and general health and fitness…

It’s funny how often I talk to someone who wants to make a physical change in their body, be it extra strength, gaining more muscle or losing some body fat.

Then literally the next words to come out of their mouth are…

“I don’t want to push myself too hard or lift much weight”

Don’t get me wrong I have nothing wrong with this if your goals are about maintenance or not wanting to make great change but…

If you have just finished telling me your goal is to improve from where you currently are, then we are at a crossroads.

If what you are doing now has landed you where you are then doing more of the same is not going to help you.

We wouldn’t be having this conversation if your current training was delivering this for you.

If you want to get stronger be prepared to lift weights and if you want to lose weight be prepared to change the way you eat or do more workouts…

We humans are biological beings…

We must put ourselves in challenging situations which will drive adaptation and growth.

This doesn’t come from doing comfortable things all the time.

If change is what you’re after:

  1. Find your comfort zone and then,

  2. Get used to working near the edge of it on a consistent basis…
